Graduated in 1984 from the School of Medicine of the University of Puerto Rico. Four years later, Dr. Santiago completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Puerto Rico’s Veterans Hospital, receiving his certification in 1989 by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Association of Ophthalmology. Dr. Santiago has been recognized both, at international and local levels, having received the IntraLase Pioneer Physician and VISX Start Surgeon awards in the United States. In Puerto Rico, he was recognized as one of the outstanding physicians in the refractive practice.

Currently, he is President and Medical Director of Instituto de Ojos, institution that he founded in 1988 and that for the past 24 years has been a pioneer in the development and implementation of innovative techniques, both visual correction and ophthalmic conditions treatment. Dr. Santiago has concentrated his practice in the restoration of the visual acuity of patients with refractive conditions, having successfully performed more than 40,000 surgeries using the most advanced laser technology, IntraLase bladeless procedure for visual correction or the insertion of multifocal intraocular lenses.
